Looks like roughtly 1.6 Mbit downstream and 300 kbit upstream. I’m impressed.. Its faster than my verizon aircard is sometimes on the ground!

As my flightattendant just announced : “Delta is in...

As my flightattendant just announced : “Delta is in the 21st Century!” - now theres WIFI Posting this from the air on the first Delta flight I have taken with wifi.

Service seems reasonably quick and is $9.99 fixed price. Maybe I should do a speedtest in the name of science. Its interesting how we are perfectly willing to pay 10 bucks for an hour or two of internet as long as we are high in the air; while on the ground it’d be a much tougher sell.

Hopefully this is something that’ll be more available in the future. Its limited use from Atlanta to Washington DC, but for those cross country flights its perfect!

http://www.juliansanchez.com/2009/04/07/solution-to-the-fringe-glyph-cipher/

http://www.juliansanchez.com/2009/04/07/solution-to-the-fringe-glyph-cipher/:
Sweet - the cypher of the tv-show fringe was cracked by one of the Ars guys. Turns out its pretty simple, but still kinda neat. Hopefully there’s more depth to the shows mysteries.

On a slightly related note, I can now play the show’s theme on my synth!

New DJ setup - Pioneer CDJ-1000 MK3’s, DJM-800 mixer and...

New DJ setup - Pioneer CDJ-1000 MK3’s, DJM-800 mixer and Xone cans!

Zombie up your life - new Left4Dead SDK and gamemodes

Sweet! Just read that Valve is releasing a SDK and new modes, including survival for L4D! Finally we can make that mall-attack mode >D

From the Steam update this morning:

Left 4 Dead Critic’s Choice Edition, DLC and SDK Details Revealed February 5, 2009, 10:47 am - Alden Kroll - Press Release

Valve’s Zombie Thriller Expanding In 2009

February 5, 2008 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced a series of content and development releases for its latest title, 2008’s best-selling new game property for the PC and Xbox 360, Left 4 Dead (L4D).

The first L4D DLC — dubbed the L4D Survival Pack — is due for release this spring and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode . A Critic’s Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

In addition, for PC gamers and aspiring developers, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will allow the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D’s matchmaking system. The SDK update is also due for release this spring, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.

“Since Half-Life launched in 1998, Valve has made continuous efforts to expand the offering of its products beyond what’s included on the day of launch,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “With Half-Life and Counter-Strike, and more recently Team Fortress 2, we’ve learned that we’re no longer making stand-alone games but creating entertainment services. With Left 4 Dead we’re extending that tradition by creating additional gameplay and releasing our internal tools to aspiring developers so they may also create and distribute new Left 4 Dead experiences.”

Left 4 Dead is a survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 25 industry awards from outlets around the world.

For more information, please visit www.l4d.com

Its fast, stable and has a lightweight feel to it. I am sure this is partially due to it not having a load of plugins, toolbars and so on that bog down Firefox and IE.

This unfortunately is also the source of my dilemma. I can live without all my plugins, except Roboform. With the number of sites and services I use for various things, this is probably one of the most useful pieces of software I have ever purchased.

I have been reading about the bookmarklets that people used to make a fake google toolbar’ and I suppose that you could use the password database in Chrome, the problem is that it doesnt sync across computers. If google had used their already existing password reminder feature in the toolbar it would have been better.

At any rate, for now Chrome will be my meebo/gmail/cloud computing browser mainly until Google straightens stuff out. I’ll bet we get a major Chrome update in the next 2-3 months; so lets hope.

I know I’m behind on the fringe stuff, but I found this...

I know I’m behind on the fringe stuff, but I found this video pretty neat. The show is cool although the last episode about computer programs melting brains offends my professional pride. It is like all those hacker movies where they press 10 buttons and they’re into the NSA Mainframe or some other gibberish.

Variations on the Fringe theme

Variations on the Fringe theme:
Torley here is going wild with his fringe variations, love his energy.. Now I need to sit down in my mini-studio here and learn it too.

Hmm.. it would make a great trance track..

Soundcloud

Soundcloud:
Stumbled upon this and seems like a really cool and simple site for musicians and producers to share songs and audioclips. You can preview clips online even view their waveforms, which is handy for IDM/EDM (intelligent/electronic dance music).

Its not quite a contender to something like Beatport when it comes to sharing and selling your tracks, but for sending clips and tracks to your friends, it seems interesting

Wait.. No big deal, I had a bunch of them before.

However, this year something new happened.. Normally friends and family call or send a happy birthday IM. But this year I got a crazy amount of happy birthday wallposts, hatching-eggs, birthday cards.

Its interesting how the functionality (wishes) stay the same, but has changed from letters, to actual greeting cards, to emails, to IM and now to social media.

Maybe next year we’ll be back to carrier pigeons!

Grenade coke!

Grenade coke!

Starting the tumblog...

Testing out Tumblr to see how i like it compared to Wordpress.
